Summary[]
The next morning, Monica and Dorian are seen having tea in the kitchen of Pendragon’s house as Pendragon comes down the stairs, preparing to leave to go visit the King at his castle. Monica wants to go so that she can see her father, but Pendragon tells her to stay, as it would be too dangerous for her to leave. He says they’ll hear from him in a couple of days and leaves, as Monica mopes that she can’t go to see if Will made it back to the castle. Dorian tells her to look on the bright side, as he’ll be able to start tutoring her in magic. Nico complains that he’ll be the only non-magical user in the house, though Dorian comments that he doesn’t actually know if she’s capable of casting spells. Monica quips that she already can fly better than Dorian, which he doesn’t believe.
Dani comes down the stairs to the kitchen, and reveals she’s cut her hair into a short bob and changed her clothing, much to everyone’s surprise. Monica compliments her new look, while Nico points out she’s wearing his overalls. Dani apologizes, and comments that she doesn’t own any clothing that isn’t black. Monica asks what Dorian thinks, which he says he hates it. He says they don’t look like siblings anymore, which Dani disagrees. Dorian says she doesn’t look like a witch anymore and that their father wouldn’t approve, to which Dani responds saying that their father is a murderer. She also states she doesn’t want to be a witch anymore. Dorian is confused, saying she helped him fight at the Floating Rock and that she did better than him. She responds saying she’s killed a dragon, and lists all the times she’s messed up with magic – coming to the conclusion that everything she does is wrong. She says she’s still his sister and this won’t change anything, but Dorian runs upstairs - calling her a coward. Monica and Nico, unsure of what just happened, asks Dani what she plans to do. She says she’s running late for work, much to their confusion.
It then cuts to Dani asking Mark what he thinks of her in her uniform to work at Evans Café, with Mark being shocked that she was actually serious about wanting to work there. Dani is sure of it, though Mark is not sure if she’ll find life without magic that exciting. Dani asks if he ever gets bored, to which he says yes, stating “Except when I’m with you.” He gets flustered and corrects himself, actually referring to her and her brother, Nico, Pendragon, Monica and Carlo – meaning it in a good way. Dani says she’s sure she’ll have fun working, seeing that magic only caused her problems.
It then cuts to a panicked Dani and Mark, outside a partially destroyed café terrace. Dani says she can be a bit clumsy, much to Mark’s annoyance. He asks her to clean up the mess with some magic, with her reiterating that she’ll never do magic again. Dani says she wants Mark to teach her how to be a normal person, and albeit surprises him, he accepts.
It cuts away to different panels. Nico, watching something from afar, is surprised but someone he sees. Monica, holding a magic textbook, is blushing as she hides behind a wall as she listens to Dorian, who is laying in bed cringing in embarrassment at something, asking himself what else could go wrong.
Elsewhere, Damien is meeting with the King in the garden of the castle. He apologizes that he didn’t see Monica at the Floating Rock, to which the King is relieved that she wasn’t caught up in the fight. Damien also states he saw Prince William, but he wasn’t able to rescue him. The King says that it is good news that most of the witches have chosen not to betray him, to which Damien agrees. The King states he has an idea, which may help them avoid a war.
Damien heads back to his room in the servants’ quarters, thinking about the King’s plan. He does not agree that a fight can be avoided, as he opens Dorian’s backpack he previously lost in the woods. He then takes out the dark magic spell that Dorian found in the Candy Cottage.
