Episode 46 is the forty-sixth episode of Hooky, created by Míriam Bonastre Tur. It is the first episode of the King of the Witches Arc.

Summary[]

The next morning in the town, Mark is seen working at Evan's Café, too tired to notice a voice that is yelling at him from a distance. As he runs an order to a table, he suddenly realizes the voice is Nico, who has been shrunk again. Mark, clearly confused as to what is going on, is told by Nico that he needs to hurry to Pendragon’s house, as something has happened earlier in the day.

Flashing back to the wee hours of the morning, Pendragon is seen carrying Dorian out of Alex’s van and into his house, with Monica and Nico behind him carrying Dani. Monica is upset that Pendragon stole the van and cast a sleeping spell on the twins, which he only justifies as there would be too much to explain to them, and it’d be dangerous. Monica says she won’t allow him to kill them, which he replies that if he wanted to, he already would. He locks the two in Monica’s room for the time being, claiming it’s the safest place for them to hide from the Wytte family and their followers or detractors. Pendragon explains he’ll look into his crystal ball to see what to do next, with Monica and Nico begging to talk to them. He refuses, and leaves.

As Pendragon leaves, Nico realizes that the sun is rising, meaning he’ll shrink again. Monica tells him to go out to look for help and she’ll watch the room. He questions why she should watch the room, to which she explains she’s worried about one of them looking at her diary or her underwear. Nico tells her not to worry about those things since Dorian would never be interested in that stuff, much to Monica’s chagrin.

Sometime later, Dorian and Dani wake up in the bedroom, confused as to what’s happened. Suddenly they hear Monica yelling outside the room, telling Pendragon he can’t go in, and asks if he is going to kill them. He does not respond, seemingly confirming her fears. He tells her that she also knows it’s one of the Wyttes, and that they’ll target her father and eventually her as well. Before he can enter the bedroom however, he is punched in the face by Mr. Evans, who has come with Mark and Nico to stop him. Mr. Evans is appalled at Pendragon, and Pendragon calls Nico a traitor and a further disappointment. As Mr. Evans and Pendragon fight, Monica, Mark and Nico sneak into the bedroom. When the three enter the bedroom, Dorian and Dani asks Monica what is happening, and what she’s hiding from them.

After Monica explains everything, the group begin to take in the situation. While Dani is upset knowing her family is behind it, Dorian assesses what the prophecy means for them. Monica objects, yelling that he’s wrong, and she and everyone else have not gone so far for it to turn out she’s been wrong to protect them. Dani and Dorian clarify that they do not think the prophecy is referring to them, much to everyone’s confusion. The two explain that there is someone else who it could be – their older, estranged brother – Damien. Monica has a realization, as she now knows how she knew their last name – their older brother is the same Damien Wytte who serves her father.

Characters in order of appearance[]

Trivia[]

  • This episode reveals that Damien is an estranged member of the Wytte family, though it had been alluded to several times beforehand.
    • Damien’s name starting with a letter ‘D’, like Dorian and Dani.
    • His monochrome color palette is reminiscent of the Wytte family’s appearances.
    • Damien worked as a butler for Monica’s family, despite being a witch. It’s hinted that they may not know he’s a witch, however it’s revealed in a later episode that Monica’s father did know this.
    • Damien was knowledgeable about the Wytte family, though he often hid how much he knew.
    • When Damien saw Angela and Hans captured at the Floating Rock, he was surprised to see them.
    • When he sees Dani and Dorian flying on a dragon, he knows exactly who they are and notes that it isn’t surprising the Wytte family would train them to do so.
    • Angela eludes that there was another Wytte child when Hans and Hilde fought over who would be King of the Witches. Damien also flew away to avoid being spotted when he heard this.
  • There is a gap between the previous episode and this episode which leaves some questions unanswered or unclear, though we can assume certain things.
    • The witch that shot at Alex’s van and asked about the twins’ whereabouts is never seen, though it can be assumed that it was Pendragon. If it was though, the witch’s speech bubble was not colored to his colors.
    • Alex, Barry and Noah are not seen after the accident, and it is not said what happened to them after Pendragon took the van. They were presumably left unharmed since they are seen again in a later episode.
    • It is not known why Monica and Nico didn’t stop Pendragon from casting a sleeping spell on the twins, as he presumably did not cast the spell on them as well.
    • It’s not known how Alex, Barry and Noah got their van back after this episode, since they are seen with it again later on in the story.
  • The group that Mark is seen serving coffee to are the caricatures of Miriam and her friends, Cristina Triana and Nuria Sanguino.
    • Cristina becomes a colorist for Hooky during the last few episodes of the series. There is also a reoccurring joke of her having a crush on Mark, which is seen in this episode with her attempting to ask him out.
  • This episode continues the gag from episode 27 where Mark wants to kill Dani due to her cursed potion.
  • At the end of the episode, Miriam includes a drawing of a young Damien and baby Dani and Dorian. These designs were seen again in a later episode in the series.
